Hogue EX-F01 Drop Point Blade 5.5" G10 G-Mascus FDE knife with fixed blade 14 cm long and 6.35 mm thick. The blade is made of cryogenically treated A2 steel. G10 handle in FDE (sand) G-Mascus design with two holes for lanyard. Included in the package is a MOLLE compatible black nylon sheath with Mil-spec and a protective insert. Made in USA.
Steel A2 is an air-hardenable die steel. The importance of the chromium and molybdenum content lies in the greater dimensional stability than in O1. A higher austenitizing temperature of approx. 980oC is also required. The heating is carried out gradually in stages to minimize the thermal gradient and to avoid longer durations at the temperature and to prevent the subsequent growth of the austenitic grain. Dissolved alloying elements and carbon content are the cause of the high content of residual austenite when quenched at room temperature. The result is then a decrease in hardness by 2.5 to 3.0 HRC. With the cooling effect, a hardness of 64 to 65 HRC can be achieved. The average resistance is given for steel A2 grade 6 (steel O1 – 4 st., D2 – 8 st.). It has good impact resistance.
