If a new law is being passed you should probably care enough to know about it, better yet, you should show up to voice your support for it or opposition to it. In our “civil society” our elected officials should be inviting of your comments and concerns, and let your comments weigh heavily on their decision making process.
Apparently things aren’t that civil in Colorado where one Representative responded to a concerned citizen — a senior citizen at that — with the statement that he’d “probably be dead, anyway!”
“Good news for you, you live in Denver. The DPD would be there in minutes. You’d probably be dead anyway.” — Rep. Diana DeGette (D, CO), Chief Deputy Whip, representing the 1st District of Colorado
Remember, folks, when seconds count, police are only a phone call and several (dozens?) agonizing minutes away.
